This Cookie Policy explains what cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, and similar technologies Setkin uses, why we use them, how long they last, and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy. In the EU and UK we operate on an opt-in model for non-essential cookies; in the US we operate on an opt-out model, and you can opt out of sale or sharing of your personal information.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They help a website remember you between pages and between visits. We also use similar technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage, which work in a comparable way. For simplicity, this Policy refers to all of them as "cookies".
2. Why we use cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in, protect your session against cross-site request forgery, remember your language and theme preferences, measure how the Platform is used so we can improve it, and — where you have consented — show you relevant product updates. We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles or to track you across other websites.
3. Essential cookies
These cookies are required for the Platform to work and cannot be turned off through our consent tool. They include: session tokens (to keep you signed in); CSRF tokens (to protect form submissions); cookie-consent preferences (to remember your choices); and load-balancer cookies (to route your requests reliably). Without these cookies, core functionality such as signing in, saving a review, or making a payment would not work.
4. Functional cookies
These cookies remember choices you make so the Platform feels personal. Examples include your preferred language, dark or light theme, the last panel you had open, and whether you dismissed a notification. Disabling them may make the Platform less convenient but will not break it.
5. Analytics cookies
We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate usage — pages visited, features used, and where users drop off. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it. Analytics cookies are set only after you have given consent in the EU, UK, and other opt-in jurisdictions.
6. Marketing and advertising cookies
We do not use advertising cookies to track you across other websites. If we ever introduce marketing cookies (for example, for a campaign on a third-party platform), we will ask for your consent first and update this Policy. You will always be able to opt out.
7. Third-party cookies
Some features rely on third-party providers: Stripe may set cookies when you complete a payment; our email service provider may set tracking pixels in transactional emails; our error-tracking provider may set a cookie to help us diagnose bugs. Those providers have their own cookie policies, which we recommend you review.
8. How to control cookies
You can control cookies through our cookie-consent banner and through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, and some let you allow only certain kinds. Blocking essential cookies will break parts of the Platform. On the mobile app, you can reset your device identifiers through your OS settings. Where you have consented to a non-essential cookie, you can withdraw that consent at any time by reopening the cookie-consent banner.
9. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by law (including in California and Colorado). Because there is no industry consensus on how to interpret Do Not Track (DNT) signals, we do not currently respond to them. If that changes, we will update this Policy.
10. Legal framework
In the EU and UK, our use of cookies is governed by the ePrivacy Directive (Directive 2002/58/EC, as implemented in the UK by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 — PECR) and the UK GDPR/EU GDPR. Under PECR, non-essential cookies require prior informed consent. In the US, our use of cookies is governed by the CCPA/CPRA and the other state privacy laws, which operate on an opt-out model. In Brazil, by the LGPD. In Canada, by PIPEDA and, in Québec, Law 25. In Australia, by the Privacy Act 1988 and the APPs.
11. Updates to this Policy
If we materially change how we use cookies, we will update this page and, where required, ask for your consent again.
